Narra Multipurpose Cooperative was recently declared as a Class B Cooperative - a full one-step hurdle from its former classification as a Class D coop. The welcome news was personally announced during the conduct of the exit session of a three day assessment by Land Bank Dagupan City Branch officials of NMC’s performance for the past year. With its new rank, NMC will now be available to vie for the Gawad PITAK Award being given by Land Bank to cooperatives with outstanding accomplishments.
The exit meeting conducted Mrs. Wilma C. Zacarias and Ms. Mary Ann P. Quinto OF , LB DAC, was held at the office of VAdm. Virgilio Q. Marcelo, AFP (Ret.), NMC Chairman and CEO, Brgy. Narra, San Manuel, Pangasinan last September 16, 2011.
In the year 2000 VAdm. Marcelo together with some 28 farmer barangay leaders organized the cooperative to address the socio-economic problems of the barangay. It was registered with the Cooperative Development Authority on June 24, 2000 with a paid up capital of PhP15,000.00. After seven years of operation, NMC was recognized for its outstanding record and it was acclaimed as the newest millionaire cooperative in Region I during the cooperative month held in October 24, 2007 in San Fernando City, La Union. On March 24, 2008 NMC was awarded as Most Outstanding Entrepreneur in the Field of Agriculture during the Ilocos-Pangasinan Regional Development Council Meeting held at Cabugao, Ilocos Sur. NMC has now grown to 205 members with a total asset of about PhP15 million as of January 2010.
The promotion of NMC into a second class cooperative is double significant as it came five days before the 73rd birthday of VAdm. Marcelo.
