Nobody can resist good inspiring stories because they give us optimism to go on with life. Stories of ordinary people who remain steadfast despite of the trials that they been through. Their stories made us realized that unwavering faith and dedication will lead us to wherever and whatever we are aiming for in this life.

This article will highlight the inspiring stories of three of our employees to give them due recognition and to let them know that NMC is proud to have them as our employees.
NMC SUCCESS STORIES
It was in year 2002 when Perlita Guillermo, one of the housekeepers in SRPC Operators Village, found a wallet at the room she is cleaning. Her first thought was to look through the wallet for the owner's identification or contact information. But aside from the identification card, she also found bills of U.S. dollars inside.
There are countless things Perlita could have done with the money. Her family is one of the Project Affected Families of San Roque Dam who had relocated to Camangaan Resettlement Area. They had already used all the money that they get from the payment of their land in purchasing three hectares farm lot in Arzadon. Her three children are all studying and she needed the money for their college education. But the temptation to keep the money for herself never entered
her mind. She knows that it wasn't her money and it needed to be turned over.
Perlita turned over the money to Jun Belen, the manager of the agency that is providing housekeeping to SRPC-OV that time. Mr. Belen contacted the owner of the wallet but he had already boarded the plane going home to the U.S. Mr. Belen had somehow managed to return the wallet to its rightful owner.
This story of honesty and heroism was never given acknowledgement until now, but Perlita is very thankful because out of 8
housekeepers, she is one of the two who were chosen to remain in service after the construction of the dam. The rest of her colleagues were terminated. She believes that her decision to return the money was one of the big reasons why she was chosen to stay in service.
Now, after more than a decade of dedicated service in the Operator’s Village, she and her husband Remigio Guillermo are happy and proud that they will be reaping soon the fruits of their hard work. Their eldest son Christian Guillermo will be graduating next year as a mechanical engineer. Their second son Lourgelyn is in fourth year accountancy and their youngest son Sherwin is in first year mechatronic engineering.
Success is sweeter if it is a result of honest hard work and dedication. Perlita felt bless and contented as a mother because her dream will soon become a reality.

Honesty is Still the Best Policy
A Reason for Everything
Perlita Sagun tearfully related her story that started with a tragedy.  In April 2000, the Sagun family from Solana, Cagayan Valley decided to spend their summer vacation in San Felipe, San Nicolas, Pangasinan, the hometown of Perlita. Unknowingly, this became the most painful summer for the whole family - their youngest daughter drowned while swimming in the Agno River together with her aunt. The tragedy devastated the whole family but it also paved the way for an opportunity that would change the lives of the whole family.

During the wake of her daughter, two of SRPC’s Vice-Presidents, Mr. Ray Cunningham, Senior Vice President and VAdm  Virgilio Q.Marcelo, VP for Office of the Government and
Community Programs, visited the family to offer their
condolences and to give financial assistance:   During the conversation, they learned that both husband and wife were unemployed. VAdm. Marcelo offered Perlita a job in the land office as one of the utility workers. The offer was good but Perlita was hesitant at first because they were just temporarily staying in San Felipe for the summer. Seeing her hesitation, VAdm Marcelo told her that he will shoulder the payment for her boarding house from his own pocket.

Armed with a steady income, Perlita promised herself that she will send all her remaining five children to college no matter what. She wanted them to have an education that she never have. But it was not an easy task. Her husband is the one taking care of their children in Cagayan, so she is the sole breadwinner of the family of seven. She needs additional income to augment her salary. Thus, she would engage in several sidelines such as buying vegetables from Baguio and fish from Urdaneta that she would sell to townmates in Cagayan every time she goes home.  Then she would also buy commodities from Cagayan that she would sell to employees working in SRPC.

While reflecting back, Perlita said that she could not believe that she was able to make it. Now she is very proud that her hard work had finally paid off. Her four boys were graduates of B.S. Criminology and two of them, PO3 Rolando Sagun and PO2 Rogel Sagun are now in active police service while Rogie Sagun is involved in business and Alfredo Sagun is reviewing for the forthcoming police examination. The only girl Ronalyn Sagun is in fourth year Computer Engineering when she got married but Perlita is urging her to go back to school to finish her course.
MR. LOA MAN
Tired but more weary of the impending condition of his employment in Manila due to the spin off/outsourcing program of their company which is has started to slowly terminate regular employees - he had yet to receive the dreaded pink slip but he knows that eventually he will -  Mario Balleras decided to go home to his hometown in San Manuel to try his luck in the hydro-electric dam construction project which was then in progress.
Before the pink slip was issued to him, he left for home to file an application for a job in the SPRC Dam Project. He learned from his brother that SRPC still need additional workers and the pay is really good. He was very fortunate to be hired as soon as he applied. He enjoyed his work very much but again became
apprehensive because he knows that this will end after the construction of the dam.  Fortunately, after the completion of the dam in 2002, he was able to join NMC in their LOA projects.
He was the pioneer employee of the LOA project and during the course of interview I dub him as “Mr. LOA Man” in my mind because he has the photographic memory of all the LOA contracts from the start until now. He is very proud that he was able to supervise all of them successfully. He said that he is very happy with the decision that he made in coming back to his hometown  because his present job gives him the fulfillment that would not have materialized if he did not give up his job in Manila. According to him the LOA projects he undertakes expands his horizons because he gained additional knowledge and he was able help people needing jobs to support their families.

After several years of working with NMC, he was able to save enough money to put up a backyard piggery project which greatly augment their financial income that enables them to construct their own house. Aside from this, he was able to send his five children to school, in fact his eldest daughter Marion Jayne had finished her HRM course and is now gainfully employed  in a popular restaurant in Metro-Manila. His other children: Danara Jayne is in third year B.S. Education, Ylla Jayne is in first year BSBA, while Allana Jayne and C.B. Jayne are still in high school.

For Mr. Balleras, the future looks bright for more successful LOA projects and more people to assist. -#-
