Development Council meeting at Cabugao, Ilocos Sur, NMC was awarded NMC Most Outstanding Entrepreneur in the field of agriculture.

Honored and recognized, the management never did any breast-beating. For after the recorded success of NMC, an intriguing inquiry kept looming above the coop’s horizon.

How relevant is NMC to the community? As the persona being recognized as the literal body and soul of NMC, we do not wish to come to the fore and proclaim that NMC has been and is serving the community well and good. Instead, we hereby open NMC’s book of record for everyone to see  and answer the question themselves.

For the record, NMC now composed of 205 members is employing 90 workers and employees, is probably the biggest employer in the community. The workers, mostly project affected persons by the construction of the giant hydro-electric dam - flagship project of the Philippines managed by the San Roque Power Corporation are compensated in accordance with DOLE’s wage set. The regular employees aside from receiving salaries compatible with the employees of other agencies insured with the SSS, receives year-end bonus and have Philhealth cards.

Premium quality organic fertilizer produced by the coop’s organic fertilizer production plant are being sold at a price way below the ongoing price of other organic fertilizers. The palay trading business of coop is buying palay with a higher cost than the other palay traders. A modern double pass rice mill that gives a higher percentage of clean rice recovery was constructed by the coop. And to help the farmers in the procurement of agricultural inputs and other needs, the coop also operates a non-stop agricultural shop.

Sensitive to the felt need for health care, NMC regularly sponsor medical and dental missions. For the promotion of a healthy body, it supports sports activities. Aware of the importance for the propagation of the arts and culture, it contributes to the holding of cultural festivals.
On top of these social responsibility endeavors, NMC is currently undertaking the collegiate education of 10 intellegent, deserving indigent youths. Is NMC relevant to the community where it operates?

October is Cooperative Month. "Come gather 'round people wherever you roam and admit that the waters around you have grown. And admit that soon you'll be drenched to the hone, if your time for you is worth savin'. Then you better start swimmin' or you'll sink like a stone. For the times they are a-changin'.
